My first intention in putting together this guided journal was to help cancer patients who were frustrated and stuck in their cancer journey. As a medical oncologist, I see many cancer patients who understandably are so preoccupied with what will happen tomorrow, next week or even next month, that they forget to live in the moment. The more I thought about it though, there are lots of people who are unable to live in the present because of some traumatic past event or fear and uncertainty about the future. So yes, perhaps you have this journal because of a recent cancer diagnosis or recognition of some other life-changing disease. On the other hand, maybe you picked up this journal because of a life altering event like a divorce, the death of a family member or friend or the loss of a career. Though I don’t know you or your situation personally, I am sorry because nobody deserves a cruel disease like cancer that wrecks the physical body and robs one of inner peace. Nobody deserves the heart break of a divorce, the devastation of a loved one dying or the uncertainty of job insecurity. Whatever it is, I am sorry. Now, if you are ready to move ahead, let’s do it. No more apologies.
